As some who studied history at university, I cannot help but to see parallels between, say the Covenant in Halo and other, real, diverse, technologically advanced forces in history, especially the early Caliphates. Conversely, I often times see Master Chief as Charles Martel, the one who defeats this huge force with force of will, heavy armor and some luck.
I also see many paralelles between the elites and both Vikings and the Samurai.
alot of people pick up some facts and make connections passively while playing a game…and some people, like myself, research interesting things from that game and just learn a little bit that we did not already know
i decided to read about different weapon variants, military factions, ammunition types, etc. after play operation flashpoint 2..which was pretty cool, i learned quite a bit about guns
yeah, AC2 is FULL of real historical references like the medici and the physician’s outfits that can take you to some pretty cool elements of history if you look ‘em up.
The Wii is all over this now. I see the core gamers mock the Wii for this and that, but it has branched out, like the DS has, into areas that push personal development. That is what Wii Fit and Brain Age are about.
The Devil May Cry series is just getting better and better with its references. Practically every weapon is something from history or mythology that means something completely different…And Pandora’s box is just plain cool XD
this is some good stuff man. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve looked something up after seeing it in a game. This also applies to movies and TV by the way.
I’ve learned soo much from fallout 1+2,.. civilization.. aoe… hell I even wondered about the united nations the first time at the age of 12 while browsing through my C&C 1 manual.
you know the game metroid prime 2. well that game had a really good way to show the infomation from all the scans in the game . when i play it I will pause form time to time and spent time just reading the lore or creatuer imfomaton in the game

These could all get kids more into history.

“Not when Locusts are running free, and that katamari isn’t going to roll itself.”
Katamaris are indeed the best way to get rid of Locusts.
