"It is not the function of the
government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the
function of the citizen to keep the government from falling into error."
Justice Robert H. Parker, Chief Prosecutor,
Nuremberg Trials The aim of this website is
first and foremost to
empower ordinary people like you and me. The decisions and
indecisions, our actions and inactions we make in our everyday life
directly affect us and others in our sphere of influence. The same is
true for others towards you also.
Though this website is politically oriented (though not towards any one
political party), the information and resources to be found within these
pages will enable you to interact with many other spheres of influence
and if done correctly, enable you to exert a greater sphere of influence
outwards. But you cannot do it alone. Democracy is about people. And
getting a majority of them to think the way you do on important issues
is often a laborious task. This has long been the problem in trying to
organise a consolidated effort and getting our government to listen to
your efforts.
Play It Forward Australia was designed for Australians to have a method
of applying the principles of Direct Democracy and have a delivery
vehicle by which they can communicate to other ordinary Australians and
to those people who have been elected to serve the various electorates
around Australia.
Many of you may have came to this website because you got an email from
a friend who passed on the original
Play It Forward Letter,
whilst others may have come in from random browsing or a direct link
from a search engine. Many of you may be totally fed up with the system
and want something different. Some may just want a change here and
there.
There are many possibilities in store when we put our heads together and
become people who don't accept what is dished to us by default. Sadly,
some members in our community have agendas which exclude the average and
the majority of Australians. The continual success of their actions
depends on the befuddlement and incoherence of the rest of us. A
Constitution is one way of finding a common ground and provides for
good governance - its constitutes the will of the majority. And we do
have one. Because we are all unique individuals with a diverse range of interests
and needs, this creates a lot of different camps of thought of what
democracy actually is. What is important to one person or group of
persons is not necessarily a priority for another. A wide range of issues exists
in the community which may need attention or in the case of bad legislation -
revision.
For example: refusing to hand over personal
information to a Census collector is now a criminal offence, or perhaps you
agree/disagree with water fluoridation, prostitution, abortion, smoking in
public places, anti terror and sedition
laws, industrial work place relations laws, defense troops operating offensively
in far away places and so on and so forth.
If you have an issue or a story that you feel other Australians should
know about or is undemocratically Australian, send Play It Forward an
email and we'll put it up for you.
Regardless of the issues at hand, at times a contentious community issue
is best resolved though a referendum. Be sure to look through one of the
greatest principles of Direct Democracy called
BCIR or Binding Citizens Initiated Referendums. It has been
operating in Switzerland for over 130 years. If a binding referendum was held
and went in favour of the opposite camp of thought to you, then under time
honoured democratic principles, one would have to concede it was done on behalf
of the community.
However, most of the current modes of thinking in Australia, including
those whom we supposedly elect, do not even recognise the importance of Direct
Democracy and the BCIR process. We need to work hard to inform our governments
what it is we want - citizens to be able to vote on important issues without
waiting for the next election and the empty promises that are usually associated
with such elections.
:) Play It Forward is about bringing people together, exchanging ideas,
consolidating on what works and learning from what doesn't, equipping the
ordinary Australian with the tools to get the job done and a whole lot more. The
site, as is life, is a work in progress and a labour of love for all things
democratic. So jump on in, be considerate of others, proactive in your thoughts
and actions and see how you, me and we can make a difference.
Whose remote control do you hold? Who do you allow to press your
buttons? Who don't you allow to press your buttons ? My heart beats. Your heart
beats. Our hearts beat together. Can you hear it Australia?
Empowerment starts with you. Dream it. Learn it. Do it. Share it.
